Alcala Street/Calle Alcala, Oaxaca City

Running due north of the Xocalo plaza in the historical centre of Oaxaca city, la calle Alcala showcases the majesty of the town's UNESCO World Heritage status. The street is a pedestrian only street for 3 large blocks heading up from the Cathedral to the Church and former monastery of Santo Domingo.

The following sequence begins from the cathedral and moves north to Santo Domingo.

The former Monastery of Santo Domingo today houses an elaborate museum of pre-hispanic culture of the Oaxaca region. The interior of the Monastery, en route to the various museum rooms, is an architectural and historical delight.
