Trinity and Bonavista, Newfoundland
After a decade of spending so many happy and uplifting times in Newfoundland, we finally got to visit two places we have long wanted to see: Trinity and Bonavista .
Needless to say, it was raining in Trinity. For summer, the weather was foul, but it could not challenge the beauty and distinctiveness of the town.
The weather cleared up a bit overnight, and the next day we spent looking around Bonavista. One highlight was standing on the viewing deck near the lighthouse and watching a humpback whale rise out of the water and dive, close to the shore; encouraged to disappear by the imminent arrival of a whale watching boat. A second highlight was watching the puffins at Maberly. There were hundreds of them, defying gravity in their inimitable manner, watched by hundreds more common guillemots. We faced down the howling wind at the end of the day, and headed back for shelter fully content with our two days of sightseeing.
